As top seller, the Spyderco Dragonfly 2's success is largely due to its mid-size blade and ergonomic handle that features a front-finger choil and spine cusp. Blade-to-handle geometry and leveraging points empower the Dragonfly to cut and feel like a much larger knife in the hand. Designed as a carry- friendly folder, it comes with a left/right-hand tip-up wire clip, patented Bi-Directional handle texturing, spine and choil jimping and screw-together handle construction. The ZDP189 blade has a high-performance flat-grind and is available with a PlainEdge configuration.

The Spyderco Dragonfly 2 British Racing Green ZDP-189 Lightweight focuses around features which make it ergonomically comfortable including positioning the Spyderco Round Hole in precise relation to the blade's pivot for the smoothest blade opening and a series of gripping angles and leveraging spots on the FRN (fiberglass reinforce nylon) handle that properly position the hand for fatigue-free and comfortable cutting.

ZDP-189 steel is one of the knife industry's hottest, hardest and highest performing knife steels today. 3% of its structure is pure carbon which makes the steel harder and in turn furthers its edge retention capacity. High-performance or exotic steels like ZDP-189 are offered on many of Spyderco's everyday-carry working folders including the Dragonfly 2 Lightweight.

Maybe the best small EDC knife ever?

Posted by Rune on 24th Jan 2019

Wow what a great knife. Picked mine up last spring and i've been using it for anything.

There's plenty of video review on this small beast. Most point out how the bladeshape and design of the grip makes it perform as a much bigger knife - I must admit they're right.

I would asume that it'll perform perfectly not depending of the chosen version. But I decided that I wanted to try a zdp-189 blade. Perfect opportunity.

First of, the blade and steel is fantastic. It's razorsharp and keeps the edge as promised.
My advice: don't let i go blunt.
It'll keep cutting boxes, carpets and whatever you can possibly think of. The edge doesn't get chipped for whatever reason and will cut fine for long periods, but as another reviewer mentioned it'll quickly start to snag on paper with no wisible damage to the edge.
The best thing is to have a fine sharpening rod, diamond or ceramic at 800 grain or more, and do a couple of strokes on both sides f the edge once a day when youve used it. This will maintain the razor sharp edge unless you thoroughly abuse it.
If it gets dull don't think your cheap pull through sharpener will help you.
You'll need a good sharpening system and a little experience if you want to resharpen this thing. I'm normally able to maintain fine edges on my more normal steels 1095, bohler steels and cts-xhp. Trying to eye sharpen the zdp steel broke the edge completely - u need to be a master to do this.

Luckily this was a perfect excuse for me to buy a ganzo touch pro ultra...
With this system it took a couple of hours (hard!) work to reset the edge and it's now as razor sharp as ever.

But if you maintain the blade when you use it you'll never have any problems.

So, great little knife that feels excellent in your hands and hold and extreme edge forever c what's not to love?

    Incredible!!

Posted by Robdguk on 26th Jun 2017

Lightweight, razor sharp with unbelieveable edge retention.

Regarding sharpening, zdp 189 has a reputation for being a nightmare to sharpen, but it's not if you have the right gear. Diamond stones, ceramic stones and high quality stropping compound, such as, flexcut gold, all work very well.

When the knife edge dulls it gets snaggy rather than blunt, when this happens you can't just strop, you have to re sharpen on a medium stone and work through the grades before stropping, it doesn't take long and is worth the effort, as you'll need to resharpen so infrequently.

Best pocket knife i own, and i own a few

    Little big knife

Posted by Lee on 26th Jul 2013

Dragonfly 2 is a tiny knife which feels and performs like a bigger blade. Feels great in the hand, ZDP is razor shape and if gets stropped shouldn't need sharpening often! Thank you sal.. Excellent service from HH as always.

    Wow!

Posted by Alan on 14th May 2012

I bought this as an affordable entry into ZDP 189 ownership, and I am seriously impressed.
It is a very hard steel, and the edge retention is out of this world, it keeps on making clean sweet cuts in tricky grain wood for lots longer than anything else I own. The downside is that it chips easily if you are stupid enough to drop it on some stones (yes I am stupid!)
Some work on a diamond stone sorted it out though.
Generally the Spyderco quality is all there, great ergos, solid lockup etc, exactly what I have come to expect.
Plus of course excellent speedy delivery from HH, has to be 5 stars!
