Effective with a little practice

For smaller blades, or stubby neckers this is perhaps not the best solution. This does work and it's a great working edge, but with larger blades its far easier to control. Smaller neckers seem to be harder to get the smooth flow on. Especially near the tip. Great solution, easy to keep an edge at its best when skinning and even all of your kitchen knives. Recommended
