Based on the SOG Bowie that helped found the company, this knife has morphed into a top-notch working knife with the use of modern technology and materials (not to mention a little class thrown in for good measure!)

This modern replica is based on the original Studies and Observation Group knife secretly developed and used in the Vietnam War by the 5th Special Forces, as well as other elite soldiers. These individuals were specialists in reconnaissance, infiltration, and operations behind enemy lines. The SOG Bowie 2.0 has become a classic with unparalleled quality- the sculpted crossguard, deep hollow grinds, precision detailing, TiNi coating, and faceted tip are all unmistakable signatures.

    SOG BOWIE 2.0

Posted by Stuart T on 30th Nov 2020

After years wanting one of these, seeing them advertised and reviewed in various "windswept and interesting" outdoorsy magazines, I finally got one from the good people at Heinnies. Its actually a little smaller than I expected, but nonetheless a very capable-looking blade that you can certainly imagine some green-faced dude toting on Special Ops in Vietnam. The stacked leather washer handle is beautiful to look at and sits well in the hand, and the leather sheath is a work-of-art, too. Black leather seems a strange choice, and I feel the knife would look better in a tan sheath (rather like the one provided for a Ka-Bar). Dont hesitate. Get one of these. Strong enough to stand up to outdoor tasks, though almost TOO pretty to use, and it would great in a display case, too. I was torn between this and the Blackjack Model 7 with stacked leather washer handle - SO I BOUGHT BOTH!!!

    Still a Classic

The Original SOG Trident was the first fixed blade in my collection, and at the time, I deliberated between it and the MACVSOG Bowie that launched SOG Speciality Knives way back in the 80s. I chose the Trident over the Carbon Steel bowie, as I liked the more modern materials, but pretty much regretted it ever since! So, I decided that I'd get hold of one of the Bowie 2.0 model to satisfy my curiosity.. The Trident was made in Seki City (by Hattori, no less), where the original Vietnam era Bowies were made. SOG have since moved all their production to Taiwan. The blade stock on the Bowie 2.0 is a tad thinner than the original, and is AUS8, rather than carbon steel, but other than that, the fit & finish is every bit as good as the original Trident I own. The grinds on this blade are truly stunning for a production knife, whilst looking to be a pretty practical tool as well... Don't get me wrong, there's many knives out there that would be better in the woods and on camp, and ones that are equally well finished for less money, but the MACVSOG Bowie remains a classic design, and this is a fantastically executed version of it...
