Schrade Old Timer Honesteel

Never used one before and therefore did not know what to expect. Watched a video that instructed to strop 10, 5, 3 and then 1. Wow after this my knife was hair popping sharp. The sheath is excellent leather and would have paid more for this. The design and quality can not be understated. The sheath becomes a handle due to the large stud. very well thought out. Excellent product

I bought the honest eel to use on my kitchen knives. I sharpen them perhaps once every couple of months and use this steel in between to keep the edge aligned. Fantastic bit of kit for the money, the metal stud in the sheath allows you to use the sheath as a sort of "handle".

Lovely sheath, good piece of steel. Has already been used to rescue an edge, its not for sharpening, its for maintaining. Good addition to my kit i feel.

Bare in mind that this is not a sharpener, but a steeling tool. It will not sharpen a blunt knife but it will keep knives sharper for longer by ironing out (or should that be steeling out?) the imperfections along the blade that make it dull over time. With just a few passes of each side of the blade along the honesteel every now and again, you will find that you wont need to sharpen your knife much at all. Well worth it. This steel is really solid and the the leather holster is really, really nice.

Did not buy mine from HH, however I totally agree with Rick below, it's a plain and simple old school type sharpener works exceptionally well. As said the sheath is also excellent quality. You will not regret the purchase of this item, it put a super edge on any blade.

If you have knives you need one of these; plain and simple. I'm way to old to be easily impressed, but this little piece of kit managed it OTB. Dammit, even the sheath is made to a higher standard than most of the crap that gets wrapped around a knife blade these days.

I have been after one of these for a while & I picked one soon after HH got them in. I've read up on Steels & with proper use they can greatly aid knife maintenance in the field. This does exactly that, I had a blade which suffered a little damage to the edge, I used the Schrade Honesteel & after several passes the edge was back & just as sharp as before. I would highly recommend this item, but before you buy, please research how to use one correctly.
