This is the Schrade Frontier Knife, SCHF55. It is yet another example of a brilliant all-round knife by Schrade. It’s a strong fixed blade that feels really robust. The blade is made from bead blasted 1095 carbon steel and its ridiculously thick (0.48cm), and runs throughout the length of the blade. To make the handle, Schrade have included two Grivory scales which are smooth to the touch, but add a surprising level of grip. They are also very comfortable to hold with a good-sized finger groove. Across the top of the knife there is plenty of jimping, which is well positioned for the average hand and offers plenty of grip.

The knife also comes complete with a glass filled nylon sheath which has a rubber belt loop attached. The sheath allows your knife to be safely secured, stored and carried.

    I hate this this knife.

Posted by Ruukuu on 21st Jun 2020

I bought this knife from Heinnie Haynes a few years ago when it was on sale. The moment i got it in my hands i hated it to my very core. The handle is short, very smooth and totally tacky. The gimping on the spine will lacerate flesh like a razor blade.....i know, it did it to me. The grind makes one inch of the blade unusable.

Why didn't i send it back? i just couldn't be bothered tell the truth.

Saying that, i decided to do something about it. Threw the scales away, got rid of the horrid coating. Reprofiled the whole knife. Removed all the gimping, reshaped the handle area......now i have a bare blade that is very comfortable and fits my hand perfect. Just got to scale it,

Look......im obviously in a minority in disliking this knife. If you have smaller hands it will be comfortable. You may love the lightweight scales and the gimping may give you extra finger security.

What i will say is that its a nice thick chunk of high carbon steel, and if that's what you are after then go for it. I think like me, you will either hate it......or love it to bits.

    Good Product

Posted by Ritchie on 3rd Jun 2020

Quite a fan of Schrade knives, I feel you get a lot for your money.

As always, never hand an issue dealing with Heinnie and delivery is always quick. As a company I'd happily recommend.

The knife I received had an extremely poor and asymmetrical grind on it. Not a huge deal, I was able to rectify it with a dremel and my lanksy sharpening set but still, I expect a knife to be at least functional out of the box, where as this knife was blunt to the point of not beign able to open a bag of coal. Schrade need to sort out quality control on that front i personally feel. As long as the heat treat is right (will need time to determine this) then it's only a mild inconvenience as I probably would want to put a different angle on it anyway.

Overall however, I very much like the knife and would recommend to others that want a small, robust fixed blade in carbon.

    Cheers

    Fantastic knive for the money.

I already own a couple Griffin desighned knives but this is by far my favorite. I did replace the grivory scales with micarta" (personal preference) Comfortable even in large hands. Powerfull and compact. I carry this knife more than some of my more exspensive knives. It is just that good.

In the end, a great little knife

Posted by Bam on 15th Oct 2016

After watching all the reviews I could, I decided to get the schf55 and a schf42 which I will review separately
I also ordered the micarta handles from the states
Didn't have to wait long as usual from HH
When I took this knife out the box I was really disappointed, the bevels on the blade where
all over the place. On one side it went from 1mm to 2mm at the tip and on the other side from
2mm to 3mm at the tip, which meant the tip was off and the blade was extremely dull
If I hadn't already ordered the handles it would have gone back
Anyhow, took it to a knife sharpener and got the bevels sorted out, and the new scales look and feel fantastic
So in the end I have a knife that looks brilliant and is now seriously sharp
After watching the reviews were they rave about these knives maybe I just got a dud
Would have given it 5 stars it had come out the box like it is now cause it's a lovely little knife

Thanks again to HH for the superb service, they would have had no problems taking them back, but in the end the problems were easily remedied

    Another Schrade Hit

Posted by Decalwizard on 23rd Aug 2016

I bought this as I own a few of the Schrade range and wanted something a little smaller for everyday camping. Yet again for the money it ticks all the boxes, love the sheath and the thick chunky blade. Very pleased with it.

Excellent 5 star service from Heinnie again.

    Perfect knife

Posted by Dan on 9th Jun 2016

I've been looking for a small(ish) fixed blade knife with the ability to have a left handed sheath at an affordable price for absolutely ages... My long search is over! An incredible knife with suck a keen edge right out of the box, compared to my other knives (around a similar price bracket), the F55 is leagues ahead! I enjoy bushcraft and wild camping and I have no doubt this will be the only blade I use by preference. If you're thinking should I/shouldn't I? Just go ahead and buy it, you'd have to be super picky to find fault with this knife!
And a word to Heinnie, amazing service as always, the knife arrived a week early, (just in time for my trip up north) Thankvyou!
