    Absolute beater of a knife

Posted by Ross on 4th Feb 2021

I chose this knife because it was cheap, and the steel suits my purposes. Item arrived with no warps or defects. The knife is honestly huge. Balance is good, and the edge slices through cardboard with no problems. A bit of machine oil on the blade, but I don't see that as a bad thing. The sharpener and fire steel are nice to have, but I can't see myself ever using the block, mainly because you would only ever use it if the edge went dull in the field after a lot of hard use (in which case you would be prepared with a better system) If knife maintenance really is an afterthought, you shouldn't be spending more than £60 on a knife anyway. It destroys wood, batons like a champ, and is precise enough to shave kindling with ease. Only gripes are that the handle is a sweat magnet, and I haven't found any use for the spines in the top of the blade above the handle except to cause discomfort. Overall, a great beater, and worth every penny.

    I love this knife

Posted by Kyle on 15th Mar 2016

I've had this knife for about a year now and it has served as my primary knife when am outdoors. I've used and abused this knife buttoning ridiculous size logs and chopping branches and logs I to smaller pieces. I took the sharpener out and replaced it with a mini survival tin with a fishing kit. I honestly don't see this knife ever letting me down it's given me no sings that it might fail couldn't be happier with it

Not as strong at the tip

Posted by Chris on 5th Dec 2015

Great knife for batoning, good weight and useful accessories. But mine broke its tip within first 10mins of use (not abuse) sticking it into a log. If you look around on the web you will find several others who have had the same problem. Heinnie said warranty doesn't cover tips but after referring it to Taylors Brand they agreed to send a replacement, which took a couple weeks to come through and has arrived today. Really want to like this knife with its 1095 carbon steel, but honestly find the F26 better for the same price. In future will probably save up for a Becker or an ESEE, until I am sure Schrade have sorted these QC issues out.

Had it a few weeks now, worked it hard, looked a bit of a mess, I stripped and polished it, looks even better and it feathers better. Great service from H H.

Great value: buy one to beat on

Posted by FatFace on 13th Jun 2015

I watched arms read all the recent reviews before buying and so I was looking for bent blades and uneven grinds. My knife is fine. Everything is as it should be. This isn't an Esee or even a Becker: there are finishing imperfections such as the handle and blade mating. The black finish I took straight off with paint stripper and put a patina on. It's hollow ground, which is fine, but this produces a very fine tip. You'll know this if you've researched the knife. The sharpener is a bit nasty, but does work, and the ferro rod is great. For this money, you used to get the nasty hollow- handled gimmicks back in the 80s and 90s. This is great value. The jimping is a bit much, but I wrap all my user-blades anyway with inner tube so this wasn't an issue for me.
