Rough Rider quality at a superb price. Not only do they look good but they use high quality materials put together with care and attention to detail. There is a choice of imitation red bone, amber bone or white bone. The blade steel is 440 stainless and is ultra sharp out of the box. The Marlin spike makes this the perfect sailors knife.

Nicely put together and easy on the eye. Rough rider knives offer fantastic value for money.

    Love, love, love this knife.

    Posted by Rob1960 on 26th Oct 2018

Very pleased with my second Rough Rider knife from HH. I selected the white bone option as I feel a white coloured scale gives a knife with a 'maritime' look and is reminiscent of past sailors and mariners using whale bone and walrus tusk etc to make scales for their knives. Also not too keen on the anchor motif on the red and amber jigged bone which looks a bit cliched and tacky IMO. The blade and spike on my knife are perfectly centred, they lock up perfectly without play or wobble and the blade doesn't rub the liners when closed. The weight and size of the knife is pleasing and screams quality. I'd love to see this knife available with tobacco bone scales and in the white jigged bone scales found on the Arthur Wright sheepsfoot (without the anchor badge). I'd snap them up if they were. Are you listening Rough Rider? Lightning fast delivery from HH. Ordered mid afternoon and the knife arrived next day.

    !st Class no quality problems

Posted by Huw on 26th May 2017

This is my second review as I have now bought 4 of these, all white bone, all to replace ones my crew and visitors have been so enthusiastic about I had to give them away! Each has been good quality and stood up to some heavy use on 45 foot boat which can put some force on a knot/tangle. They have all needed a slight sharpen. The delivery service was as quick as you could wish for 5 Star (No expert but I don't think a marlin spike is a blade" the flat part on a knife or similar tool or weapon, with a very thin edge used for cutting" Cambridge dictionary) so the locking aspect should not affect its ln uk knife legality, offensive weapon would be another matter !)

    Good well finished Knife

Posted by Alan B on 24th Aug 2016

I bought this knife on whim and glad I did. It is much bigger and sturdier than I was expecting and the Marlin spike is very useful. In fact I would have to say this is the most useful knife I have out of all the RR knives I have. The white bone handle was my third choice as the other choices were not in stock, but I have to say that it was the best choice by default - lovely and smooth and much nicer than most of my jigged bone handle RR knives. Nice one RR. Nice to have a useful tool handy in your trousers.

    Great

Posted by Huw on 1st Oct 2015

Bought this as a bit of a toy. Much better than that. Would not like my life to depend on it, I have fixed blades and harness cutters for that. Which knife will i use on deck _ This one. It works and if I drop it in the sea I buy another at this price.. Bought the bone version which look very traditional and will pobably be giving them as souveriers to guest crew. Heinne service as fast as ever

    Good solid knife

Posted by Jack on 22nd Jul 2015

Thought I'd give one of these a whirl, and was pretty impressed. Good solid Sheepsfoot blade, and a marlin spike which locks solidly - though, as has been noted, this turns it into a lock-knife as far as the UK knife laws are concerned. You could do a lot worse for a boat knife.

    Big chunky knife

This is a very usable knife. A good hefty handful too. Very well made for the price.

    What's not to like

Posted by Doug Darter on 26th Jun 2014

I'm obviously one of the lucky ones! Mine (white bone) arrived today, and I have to say that I'm very impressed. There are one or two British slip joint manufacturers in steel city, who would be advised to try and match the fit and finish of this knife. Well fitting scales, beautifully smooth polished pins, and nickel bolsters all look better executed than some on some of my British knives. The back springs are well finished, the blade pivots are tight with little lateral movement, and the bail spring works well. OK, not quite the standard of the best German and Spanish knives, but for under £20 delivered, unbelievably good value for money.

    great knife

Posted by al on 3rd Aug 2013

Have only given this knife a 4 because the spike locks making it illegal to carry in UK. Have an army jack knife and a navy knife (John Nowill)the spikes do not lock on these. Apart from this it is a really good looking knife no blade or spike wobble on mine and blade is sharp and tough. Overall has an old world look and no anchor on bone version which is quite pleasing. Would look good in any collection.
