    Rough Rider Backwoods Doctors

Posted by Samuel Milligan on 9th Jun 2021

A nice well finished, light EDC knife, with good blade alignment, the loss of one star in the rating is due a very light pull, although it has a good half stop and the blade locks well into place. Very fast dispatch and delivery, within 24 hours

    Rough Rider Backwoods Doctors Knife

Posted by Chris Walton on 10th Feb 2021

Like most HH customers I've got a lot of knives that I cannot now legally carry so I thought I would get into the world of UK Legal slipjoints. First thing to say is that the spring on this knife is not strong, in fact it is substantially weaker than a comparable SAK. Maybe that speaks to the function - nobody is going to punch through a car door or storm the Iranian Embassy with this small, slim blade. Mine has no blade play but the centering is way off to one side. The blade came reasonably sharp. One of the positive side it looks pretty, will age well and is suited for light EDC in polite society where you can't lob out your XL Espada. Use it within its limits and appreciate that for the price you're not going to get precision fit and finish.

    Rough Rider Backwoods Doctors'

Spring is a little softer than I'd like but it does have a half-stop. The blade is also not very substantial but I believe this is the style of knife not a manufacturing detail, none of which really bothers me as it was bought to make up the Backwoods set and not really for use as an EDC

Good looking in a rustic way

Posted by Dr Stephen on 10th Nov 2020

It feels nice. It looks rustic and it looks nice. The blade centers well, but spring quite weak, but does work. I got a lovely edge on it and Is definitely fit for purpose. It’s not a dinky blade either, but one good utilitarian blade of a nice size, so it’s slim and feels good and sits in my pocket well. I bought it for a nice little everyday pocket knife that looks different and rather good looking, something akin to a vintage gentleman’s penknife and doesn’t frighten the frail masses if brought out. The handle is a very nice touch and to be honest, you can’t beat this price for goodness sake.

    Very pleased

    Posted by Milesy24 on 13th Apr 2019

I was a bit wary about buying this knife after the last review, but I have been looking for a knife of approx these dimensions, to use as a fruit knife, for some time, so I thought I would take a risk. Blade centring is fine with no wobble in the joint. It does have a fairly weak backspring, but that seems typical of a lot of American/Chinese knives unfortunately! Is that because they mainly make lock knives and don't appreciate the need for a decent slip joint? In summary: a pretty knife for fairly delicate tasks.

    Little disappointed

Posted by TomM on 8th Mar 2019

I've got a few other RR knives but this one didn't meet the same standards. Blade feels loose and the centering is all over the place, heavily rubbing on the liner when closed. It's a shame really because the scales have a lovely finish and the copper bolsters and liners are classy and feel pretty solid. I know this is meant to be a thinner blade but it just isn't solid.
