    Great at this price

Posted by Richard likes pocket knives on 27th Jun 2020

First the negatives: the red dye on mine does not quite go through out the handles making it look a bit insipid. There are gaps in the back spring liners. One of the pins stands rather proud.
The positives: looks good, feels great, half stops (which I like), presentation box (would make an excellent gift knife), at this price it's a brilliant way to try out the canoe pattern to see how you like it (I love it), sharp out of box. Superb value and excellent service from HH.

    What's not to like?

Posted by Oldgit on 28th Dec 2017

Great question, glad you asked. Fit and finish, brass liners have gaps between steel springs in 3 places. Sharp edges on bolsters. Bolsters very easy to scratch, quite soft. The bevel grind was executed by someone with extreme hiccups. It's thin at the sharpening groove gets too 1.5 mm on the main blade before thinning off to nano metres at the blade belly before flaring again and shooting past the blade tip by about 1mm, and that's the show side! The pen blade is better, but not very sharp. Pull is light, about a 4. Doesn't have a strong snap. The inner of the brass liner had a lot of machine swarf. The scales are fairly raised and sharp at the transitions. Finally the stamping isn't that crisp and the match strike nail pull suffers from the same lack of crispness. BUT..... the red bone scales are gorgeous, it's a great pattern, the main blade was very sharp, pen blade can be fixed but isn't sharp. The silver nickel bolsters are good looking and you get brass liners. 440, too early for me to say much, but ok for this type of old timer knife. Blade shape, both of them are brilliant and the knife sits well in the hand, I like the weight and balance of this knife. I really like this knife, it looks classy, I'm not disappointed at this price point and would recommend this to anyone if you can accept the above points. My dilemma is whether I would pay an additional £10 to get a better f&f, answer is I don,t know, probably but the it's into another price bracket with tougher competition.
HH, next day delivery, you keep this service up, no-ones going to buy from anywhere else, top class as always. Many thanks.
