Nice knife for the price. Arrived a bit dull but I've got it really sharp quickly.

    Not worth buying it.

Posted by cornel Samoila on 7th Dec 2020

Good knife, good weight, feels good holding it,but metal is too soft, and is not sharp enough, you can't even slice a tomato with it. Overall not worth buying it.

    Beautiful knife

Posted by Daniel on 10th May 2020

Was very impressed with this knife, full tang and smart looking scales for 20 quid! Sheath is cheap but works and nicer sheaths are available at a low prices. The scales are plastic but they look great and the knife handles well. It is another one in my collection that I do not intend to use but I would happily buy another to use. HH offer fast delivery and great service and are one of my main sources for collectors and practical knives for use in the field.

    Why a Y?

    Posted by 243 on 5th Oct 2019

This is a great buy at 21 quid. The wood seems to be from a plastic tree. The blade was shaving sharp & I would describe it as a Spearpoint Hunter. The handle is a good size & comfortable to hold. The sheath is a bog standard £3 Nylon one but it does the job OK. The logo on the blade says 'Rough Ryder' with a 'Y' instead of the usual 'I'. I wonder if that makes it a Collector's item? Seriously, though; this is a hefty knife at a good price & is a great alternative to most similarly priced rivals. I've made my own sheath out of some furniture leather wrapped around a rubber core but you could probably get a decent sheath from Amazon or there are a couple of nice HH ones for under a tenner - this knife deserves better than nylon - get one.

    Really Good Knife

Posted by Paul on 21st May 2019

This is a Really good knife. 'Out-of-the-box' it is not 'razor sharp' but a bit of work with a carbide and ceramic honer got the required edge. It is a good weight but not too heavy and the handle is really comfortable. With it's 4mm thick blade, I would describe this knife as the [lighter] stainless steel version of Schrade's F56. The only reason that I gave it only four stars is because the sheath (and I've read other reviews stating this of Rough Rider sheaths) is somewhat flimsy and the pop-fastener on the retaining strap broke the first time I used it. However Heinnie Haynes, being the stars that they are, replaced the sheath at no cost and this new sheath seems to be fine. As a point of personal preference; I didn't like the profile of the blade - the spine was dead straight from the handle and then curved quite sharply the last inch and 3/4 to the point. This made the blade (to me) look ugly and I re-profiled the blade by using a diamond stone to grind a smoother more gradual curve from the handle to the point. The knife now looks how [I think] a bushcraft knife should look. All-in-all I am very pleased with this knife which is well worth it's £19.95 Yet again; Heinnie Haynes excelled themselves in getting a knife to me (at standard shipping) the morning after I had ordered it.
