Hold the front page, prepare a fanfare and ticker tape parade...Real Steel knives and Heinnie Haynes® join forces!

The outcome of such a collaboration was only ever going to result in knives that dreams are made of! And so it is, behold the Barlow. It's a classic knife form dating back centuries and is still a massive favourite particularly considering its status as UK legal carry due to it's non-locking blade under 7.6cm long.

These beautiful folders (this version has a spearpoint blade) use N690 stainless steel combine with an extremely tactile Titanium handle with a lanyard bar incorporated into the end of the back spine. The blade has a three quarter stop when going into the open and closed position to prevent closing on the fingers. The blade also features the Heinnie® 'H' and its very own serial number (sorry we can't choose a specific number for individual customers).

Each knife is supplied with a white box featuring the Heinnie® 'H' and a Certificate of Authenticity.

Obadfiah Barlow would love it too!

Posted by Andrew W-R on 15th Nov 2023

Barlows have been in our pockets since 1680 because the simple elegance of the design made them desirable and affordable. My first ever pocket knife was a Wostenholm I-XL Barlow and the HH one is it's replacement. So... The Heinnie/Real Steel collaboration Barlow? Presentation: The knife came in a rather lovely, elegantly simply branded box with a quality foam inner and with the knife itself wrapped in a microfibre cloth, not a plastic bag. The knife is finished flawlessly. Honestly, guys, I've paid more for less in that respect. The branding is small and discreet, which I appreciate. 10/10 for presentation. Materials: There are more premium steels than 690 but it's still up there with the best blade steel for EDC and, being realistic, a pocket slip-joint should not need more. The titanium may be light but there’s enough of it in the thick slabs of this handle to give the knife a decent heft. It feels very smooth but not slippy. You might want a more positive grip on a bigger knife but this is fine for its size and utility. Design: This is a true homage to the historic Barlows. The 'bolster' groove cut into the titanium is a reference to the long bolster Obadiah put on his originals for strength. The teardrop handle and spear-point, part swaged, blade that has more belly towards the tip, is also traditional. Sheepsfoot and clip-points are available if you prefer. HH offer you the choice, but the first Barlows were spear-point. The recessed lanyard hole is a lovely touch. The contrast between matt scales and polished back-strap is contemporary and pleasing. Function: It's sharp! I didn't even need to strop it to take hairs off my arm. All knives should be sharp out of the box but, sadly, its not always the case. The blade opens moderately easily, with an unusual safety stop at about 120 degrees open. A two third's stop instead of a half stop. The walk and talk is spot on. Smooth movement under just the right amount of spring tension to make everything feel positive without being hard work. It clicks open and closed with a sound every boy who ever had a pen knife learned to love. Conclusions: This collab is two things in perfect balance: A fine example of modern knife making and a tribute to the most enduring pocket knife in history. I am sure Obadiah Barlow would love this Great-great-great-great-grandson of his brainchild. I know I'll love it, cherish it, carry it and use it for many years to come.

    A very nice slipjoint

Posted by Pascal Manders on 15th Feb 2023

First of all let me say that the service is excellent, delivery abroad in less than a week, superb. Though a tad smaller than expected it is still a perfect little EDC blade. The fit and finish is very nice and it is very comfortable to use without any hot spots. If you are in the market for a slipjoint there is no reason not to buy this one. Unfortunately mine came with a slight dull spot near the tip of the blade but since I intended to use the knife a quick sharpening session quickly resolved that issue.
