Hand made in Solingen, Germany the Puma White Hunter has quality written all over it. Experts using the knife day in day out reckon it is one of the sharpest and holds an edge for the longest of nearly any knife on the market. It has sturdy Stag Horn handles with an extended thumb guard to prevent the hand from slipping and a small serrated area on the blade for the really tough cutting jobs. It comes with a superb brown leather sheath.

    Puma White Hunter

Posted by Sandy Wilson on 24th Sep 2020

Bought mine in Norway when working there in the forests as a student from Aberdeen University (Scotland) in 1960.
Used it for hunting, field work, camping and boating. Superb knife and never needed another one.

    Excellence

Posted by vultee on 23rd Nov 2018

I bought a Puma White Hunter in about 1980, it is still going strong, it's a beautiful functional knife, almost too pretty to use. I had to smooth down the rivets in the handle to make it comfortable, but otherwise it performs faultlessly, it sharpens easily, and DAMN it looks so good when I use it.

    Oops, I purchased it !

I already own Puma White Hunter 240 in 440C steel, but this one is very iconic and classy !
A small knife shop in Germany was selling this knife for $275.00, so I jumped on it and I'm very pleased with its quality as well as craftsmanship.
Old-fashioned as I am, I like the quality of Puma Solingen, the truly old-world knife maker in existence since the 18th century, and I also treasure Puma R¼demann 40 hunting/outdoor knife with beautiful staghorn scales.
No knife manufactured by Puma is so famous as this legendary White Hunter and it's been around since the Cold War era.
It is a knife that represents not only Puma but also Germany.
    Danke Sch¶n !

    I prefer White Hunter 240.

Posted by J. Joshua Kono on 26th May 2017

I own Puma White Hunter 240 (also known as the "Jubilee Edition") and mine was shipped directly from Germany since I can never procure this Beauty in the knife market here in Japan. Unlike the original W.H., the blade is made of 440C steel with more carbon content and it comes with a razor-sharp factory edge with No serration.
The precision-cast nickel silver bolster is absolutely luxurious and the "PUMA" golden crest on the stag scale adds a mark of authenticity along with a little "dot" on the surface of the blade, the mark every Puma knife made in Solingen should have after the blade hardness test.
I would say this knife is truly Jack of all trades and master of ALL !
Its potential is just unlimited from hunting, hiking, cooking to even self-defense, if necessary.
Puma Automesser, quite identical with the W.H., is officially adopted by Bundeswehr (German military) and the "BUND" inscription is visible on the blade of the military-issued knife (also known as "Pilotenmesser").
An avid outdoorsman and knife enthusiast, I also own Puma R¼demann 40 and Tradition Jagdmesser and several Linder Bowie knives made in Solingen.
Puma Solingen always fascinates me because I know that the knife I hold in my hand is a cluster of history and dignity of fine Handarbeit (handmade) skill which Germany is synonymous with.
Vielen Dank f¼r so sch¶n Messer aus Klingenstadt Solingen !

    Could have been better

Posted by Charles on 18th Mar 2017

The 3 stars is for the knife only, Heinnie Haynes' service was first class and deserves 5 stars.

The issue I have with the knife is that it can only be described as blunt. I know that a lot of knives are not exactly razor sharp straight out of the box but I've never had a knife as blunt as this one. It's made worse by the fact that the steel is very, very hard to sharpen. This isn't a cheap knife and I would expect it to have a better edge, one that would at least cut, instead of what I got - one fit only for spreading butter. I've spent several hours trying to get an edge on it with only partial success. I have a £50 Muela knife that you can shave with and I don't see why Puma couldn't have achieved that potential with their White Hunter.

Overall the quality of the knife is really nothing special and I don't think it justifies the price. I've seen an example of this model from the seventies and another from the mid nineties and both are much better quality. I bought my knife because I thought I'd be getting the same quality but I was wrong. Clearly Puma have comprised on quality no doubt to try to remain competive.

I really had been expecting to be writing a rave review & I'm very disappointed that I can't do that. The knife is now languishing in a drawer where it will be staying until I can motivate myself to spend even more time on it trying to achieve a decent cutting edge. I can't recommend this knife but Heinne Haynes' service is first class and I will be using them again for sure.

One of the best old school knivfes money can but I have had one since 1979, now have a few of them, had custom sheathes made. If you like knifes then its a must have.

    Craftsmanship. Pure & simple

    Posted by Mattblack000 on 1st Mar 2015

This is true old school quality craftsmanship. It's extremely hard to find an equivalent theses days without paying thousands of pounds. It's almost a shame to use it., the blade design is true old school hunting knife which has been "superseded " by alledgedy superior designs. Bone scorer and good size chioil to prevent slip. Mine was made in 1972 and looks like new.
