    Beautiful food preparation knife

Posted by Ricadoricado on 13th May 2020

Yes the blade does seem a bit thin at first glance (3mm) for the size of blade (82L x 29w) and the super chunky handle but actually what this translates into is a really useful knife for all kinds of food preparation. It won’t go through the dishwasher and the brass accents will need polishing to keep it looking fresh but it’s a nicely designed and made (mine is really good) knife for general purposes. Don’t buy it if you’re looking for a survival knife to fell trees or something to show off it’s fancy tech ‘forged in heaven’ steel (It’s 440 stainless). Buy it to use every day. Oh and btw it locks which is great and safe but plod ain’t gonna agree so no EDC (every day carry) sadly. I’m really pleased I bought this one ☝️, hopefully you will too.

    Sold, tactile, beauty.

One of my first purchases - and a good choice I think. Fit and finish was perfect. Blade sharp. Solid lock , and no blade play. I have fairly small hands, and have no problems with the chunkiness of this design. It's a pleasure to hold. Cocobolo version is very nice, but so nice I'm tempted not to use it ! It would make a good light skinning knife. A fine example of Maserin quality.

Not what I expected from Maserin

Posted by Daryl H. on 25th Jul 2012

I did not purchase this knife from Heinie Haynes but this is the only website I could find that sold this knife and had a customer review option. I own two other Maserin folders and am really impressed with them. The Safari is not up to the quality standards I have come to expect from Maserin. My Safari had wire burrs that ran around the outer edges on both sides of both liners. It must have missed the deburring process. The knife also sounds like it has some grit trapped under the bolster as it rattles when I shake it. Not sure why there is a space under the bolster to hold this grit or why it was assembled with grit inside. The blade material is a bit thin for a large knife and the pivot pin should be a larger diameter. It is a good looking knife. The lockup is solid and there is no play in the blade. The blade operates smoothly and the handle fits very well in my hand. I was satisfied enough with the Safari to never consider returning it but I know Maserin can do better!
