Good AAA pen torch, with a trigger happy tail switch...

Posted by Dan on 14th Jan 2020

Superb build, let down by a tail switch which is all to easy to depress and switch on. If this pen torch is worn in the front pocket of your jeans and you drive to work (or sit at some point) the torch is usually switched on when you remove it from your pocket. 2xAAA, 60 meter max beam distance 200Lm @ 35min 17Lm @ 13h30min 0.5Lm @ 100h +strobe Total weight inc 2xAAA =63g Operation wise it's a sensible forward clicky, full press or half press (if you can master it) starting from the lowest setting. To get to strobe you have to cycle through the three light stages twice. I guess this does makes sense as it's easy to over shoot the output beam wanted and this UI gives you a chance to select the right strength without having to pass through strobe. However, this makes the strobe setting very much a deliberate and some what lengthy setting to select, relegating the strobes use to pretty much just signalling. When battery voltage can't sustain highest lumen output the light begins to flicker and eventually blacks out for 3 or 4 seconds and comes back on at the lowest moonlight lumen setting. This pen torch feels great in the hand and is light enough to hold in your mouth. Great torch if kept in your pack, map pocket or chest pocket with the use of 1xAAA or 2xAAA being its ace card. Over all a good pen torch with an excellent deep carry pocket clip that's ONLY let down by a tail switch which needs more resistance.

    Outsatnding EDC!

Posted by Mantanna on 2nd Aug 2018

I am very into warm LED's. Nichia is my go to when I can get them. I use mine set up with the one battery 10440 keeping it really small. A rear clicky, real deep carry reversible pocket clip. The size of a clicky Maratec but lighter. 200lms Nichia, is just so much better imo. The light is so easy on the eyes. Button has a good feel to it. I've had mine now for about three months with no problems at all. No memory though so you always have to cycle ..however it always turns on to the lowest setting first which I like. I do highly recommend this as an edc.
