When the word "France" comes up in the world of knives, most people immediately think of the classic Laguiole knives that are known far beyond the country's borders. Only very few knife lovers know that almost every French region has produced its own knife shape and that the famous Laguiole knives are even one of the more recent developments. These locally created knives are also known as "Les régionaux" (the regional ones). In this regard, l'Alpin is considered one of the finest regional pocket knives and was created in the high-lying areas of the French Alps.

The Magnum Parzival combines the traditional shape and construction of an 'Alpin pocket knife with modern materials and details. The stainless 7Cr17Mov slipjoint blade is classically opened by nail nick and does not lock. The back spring is equipped with an elaborate decorative filework, which also acts as a support for the thumb and thus increases the work safety.

There is a choice of either Olive or Palisander wood. A lanyard hole with a short leather strap completes the equipment of the Magnum Parzival.

I continue my quest into folding knives for the Holy Grail ( no longer available ? ) , meanwhile there is this useful UK legal pocket folder large enough well made inexpensive and not so dangerous looking that it upsets wokes. Derek, Guildford Tuesday, 17 August 2021

    Magnum Parzival

The knife came in a ton with purpose made insert holding the knife in place. First impressions were a quality item. On inspection my first impressions were correct. This is a nice knife to carry around

    Magnum Parzival Palisander

Generally speaking I am not a fan of slipjoints, or of nail nicks, but I came across this on the HH website and liked the look of it. The knife does not disappoint - the palisander handle scales are lovely, and the general standard of fit and finish is excellent. The only negative on mine is that the blade is not perfectly centred when closed, but there is no blade play when open. The lanyard is a little cheap and nasty, so that may be discarded. But overall, very pretty and good value for the money.

    Updated Review

Posted by Alex P on 24th Apr 2021

This is a follow-up from my first review (original knife was returned). Thankfully my faith in Boker/Magnum has been restored, the second example of this knife is much better than the first. I'm not going to tel you it's perfect; there's a reason Magnum sits below BokerPlus & Boker in the lineup, but I can happily say that this is a good knife for the money. Fit and finish is very good on this new example, I'd say it's a bit better than a Rough Ryder, so absolutely fine for sub-£30. The rosewood is attractive and well-fitted to the metal, no complaints there. The blade is decent, no play when open, but not perfect in terms of finish. There was a tiny spot of what looked like rust near the pivot which I quickly buffed out. There are a few little stain marks on the blade, not perfectly finished/polished like a Boker+, but again for the price point it's OK. Blade on this example is well centered and the action is nice and snappy, super sharp too (72mm cutting edge when rolled along a ruler). Overall I think it's a good product at this price point. I'm not in love with it, but I'm definitely happy to have it in my collection, it's an attractive little thing and it's a very handy size. I think Magnum might be lacking in quality control a little, but that's why we buy from HH, you know they'll sort you out if you get a bad one.

Nice design, but poor quality control on my example

Posted by Alex on 7th Apr 2021

Really nicely proportioned knife, perfect size for everyday carry in my opinion. Good fit and finish in general, attractive wood and even a nice little leather lanyard to finish it off. Would be a 5/5 but the bade on mine was significantly off-centre. So bad in fact that when looking down the backspring/spine I could see the open blade curve off to the left as if it was warped. It was so far from straight that I could even see the side of the blade from this angle - it was promptly returned to Heinnie who were excellent as usual. It was a real shame because it's a lovely design. I will be buying another when back in stock, fingers crossed I get a good one next time.
