This is a simple version of a Japanese design, a no nonsense folder with a folded metal handle, non-locking blade and a simple extended tang to open it. The Higonokami style is a friction folder, with no lock, held open by the user’s hand acting on the tang.
You'll appreciate the simplicity of the sparse, Nagao design – there’s nothing on this knife that’s surplus to requirements. The handle is coated, folded stainless steel with a glitter filler and scallop to accommodate the fingers when the blade is open. The blade pivots around a rivet, spaced with a pair of plain brass washers.
Manufactured by Hitachi, Blue Paper Steel was named after the blue paper they packaged the steel in. It is a pure carbon steel with the addition of chrome and wolfran to help resist corrosion and keep the edge for longer.
