The first Higonokami knives were made as early as 1896 in the Japanese town of Miki. After the last samurai were forbidden to carry swords in public, many blacksmiths started to make knives. Higo no Kami was then an honorary title for especially powerful samurai, and it quickly became the name for the knives produced there.

Since the production in the Japanese town of Miki the classic Higonokami has hardly changed.

The Higonokami Kyoso is a lovely example of the knifemaker's art. The handle is made of one piece of folded metal with a very satisfying matt black finish. The blade is opened by a lever (Chikiri) on the back of the blade. By pressing the lever while holding the knife, the blade is kept open.

    Nice knife

Posted by Simon Frost on 16th Aug 2021

Really like these knives. Sadly it means I will have to buy all of them. I didn’t realise there was a black stripe on the top of the blade with this one but the Mrs likes it so it’s her.

Pretty good knife, comes a little loose and it's a bit short for my pinky but I extended the handle with some paracord and now I can flick it open one handed with big gloves on use it and get back to work, now it's absolutely brilliant

    UK EDC

Posted by Rafe on 24th Aug 2020

My first UK EDC. Have to say it is a simple yet beautiful knife, after using it for more than a month I have to say that the edge has held nicely. With some use it isn't razor sharp as it was when I receive it, but still does the job. When I first received the product I did notice the tip of the blade was slightly bent to the right, this disappointed me slightly but bent back with some pressure. Not what you would expect from a package knife. But I'm sure it's just a slight defect with the one I received. With out a doubt, I would have to say that even though I paid £21.95 i have got my money worth out of this excellent knife.
