The wild mountains, fjords and open seas combined
with generations of outdoorsmen are
the inspiration for Helle knife designs.

Helle knives are not only beautiful to look at but are
functional and quality tools too.
They make honest knives. Every member of the Helle
team live in the rugged Norwegian
mountains and fjords and actually use the knives they
make. Not one of them would accept
a knife that does not work as intended or a knife with
some useless gimmick. To design a
Helle knife the designer needs to understand and
appreciate how a knife should work in real
life.

For years Helle have made fixed blade knives but due
to popular demand have now turned
their hand to the folding form. The design is simplicity
itself. The blade is triple laminated
steel which will hold an ultra sharp edge for longer
than other blade steels and the handle is
Helle's signature curly Birch wood. It is supplied with a
leather belt sheath.

check out those recessed steel liners guys!

Posted by NCB on 17th Oct 2016

With all due respect to previous reviewers, the Dokka DOES have steel liners--they are recessed into the handle! Just look inside! An excellent and beautiful tool-one of a very few production folders with a scandi grind. And is it just me or is Masur birch getting rarer ( seemingly EKA and EnZo have discontinued this material on their folders)?

Only real complaint is the nail nick is not optimally positioned, so -1 star for basic design flaw. Otherwise worth every penny-solid lock-up, no play, sharp as all get-out. Snag one while you can!!

    Does what I need

Delighted with this knife - The Sheath is B. awkward though
Holds an edge well enough for what I need ie hacking up bits of baler twine and other rubbish on the farm

    Not convinced.

I bought a Dokka as an every day general purpose knife. It's nicely made and presented with a well finished blade but the lack of linings make it feel very light and insubstantial and means that it is not the easiest to keep properly clean. There is slight blade play and though it is easy to sharpen it doesn't hold an edge as well as a good stainless blade. I don't care for the design of the sheath and within a month the popper pulled apart.
All in all the knife feels delicate and doesn't inspire confidence. It it was half the price it would make a nice looking general purpose piece for light duties but if you want a tough jack-of-all trades to live on your belt and take some abuse there are better knives to be had in this price range.

    Bit of a shame

Posted by Lavengro on 13th Sep 2014

I must declare an interest here in that I am a big fan of Helle knives. The laminated blades are fantastic and by far the best of all the "Vikingland" knives. As such I was pretty excited when they brought out this folder. It looks great, has a solid appearance and seems like it would handle itself in the field. However, it suffers from a lack of steel linings to support the lovely blade in the lovely birch handle and as such there is a lot of blade play when using the knife for even moderately serious tasks . In short it just does not feel like you can trust it. I am certain that Helle will address this shortcoming in the future but for now I will personally steer clear of their folders.

A well made knife that does the business.

The Dokka is a very well made functional piece of kit. The fittings are all nicely finished and there's no play in any of the moving parts that can be found on some knives. The blade holds a good edge and is easily sharpened when required. It fits the hand nicely with a nicely patinated curly birch hand finished grip, although it is a little pale in colour. I remedied this by applying a golden yellow/orange guitar woodstain that really bought out the grain. A good workmanlike knife at a fair price that will stand up to a hard work enviroment.
