    Gerber Gator

Posted by Unknown on 31st Mar 2021

Bought my machete about 5 years ago and the metal is strong but shame about not being full tang.I've came across the machete that bends on impact and I think the metal used to make the blade is different from 5 years ago.

    Beware

Posted by mohammed on 9th Sep 2020

I have both sizes of machetes and very disappointed in them, they look cool but that's about it, I've had mine for 5 years and used them once, blade is thin and blunt...they also chip very easily so no point in resharping them

    Excellent Chopper

I find this very handy for in my garden, taking down my pampass grass it's been a god send as I wouldn't be able to control it otherwise.

First hit on a simple bit of brush blade chipped. Then folded.

    hopeless

Posted by GEOFF on 7th Feb 2020

First time I used this for hacking 1" branches the blade folded over. Managed to straighten it but then a chunk broke off. All this in 10 minutes of use. Utter junk - feels like its made of mild steel. My guess is something drastic has gone wrong in the heat treatment as I see old reviews being good and anything from the last year or so reflecting mine.

Failed twice where Tramontina coped with ease!

Posted by Jedward on 30th Jul 2019

Bought one and took it out alongside my 20 year old Tramontina to do bushcraft chopping hazel and holly up to 30mm thick. The blade warped and bent, the Tramontina which is less than half the price had no damage and cut with ease. I complained to the seller so they sent me another. I then took the new one out to test it again alongside the Tramontina and exactly the same thing happened but worse. The cutting edge actually folded over. Really disappointing as it looks and feels good.

    Poor blade

    Posted by J on 8th Jul 2019

Blade failed cutting 40mm hazel poles while the Tramontina Bolo coped easily with no damage whatsoever. I returned it to the shop for a replacement and tried again cutting 30mm holly with the same result; Gerber blade cutting edge actually folded over in places, the Tramontina was untouched.

    Disappointing from Gerber.

Posted by Smiler on 15th Dec 2016

With the blade know how from Gerber, why would they make a high force blade that does not extend through the handle, then fit a two piece handle to it? Try again, poor quality thin blade too.
