Fallkniven U1

This has been on my belt all day every day for 5 years and I cannot recommend it highly enough. It takes an edge well using either a DC4, or a CC4 depending on usage levels between sharpening. I use it for everything from opening boxes to making feather sticks, and many things in between, and find the laminate holds the edge realy well - so long as due diligence is paid on the strop. The core on mine is slightly off center so that after 5 years of relatively hard use and sharpening the lamination line on one side has almost been absorbed by the secondary bevel, but this has not effected performance. I don't remember having an issue with sharp corners on the handle when new, though I could imagine people having an issue if they were used to using a full scaled folder or a fixed blade and went straight to using this for a prolonged time. Either way the scales are easily removed so if you did find this to be an issue, the edges of the liners could easily be rounded. The knife has held up extremely well - despite prolonged exposure to some pretty harsh environments: The slip joint is still positive and there is no lateral movement between the blade and the liners. The cocobolo scales still look good as new. Yes it's on the small side (but im 6'4" and equipped with bear paws, and still find it fine to use)- and quite pricy, but if you qant want a good looking, great functioning UK friendly EDC, I dont think you will be disappointed with this knife - I know I'm not!

A great quality UK legal knife, but a bit pricey for what it is. Only large enough for a three finger grip and blade geometry only suitable for light duty - but this is what it's designed for (i.e. not for hard or prolonged use). A keen slicer. A superb modern example of a traditional gentleman's knife. Great fit and finish, holds a razor sharp fine edge and is easy to sharpen on a sharpmaker. I have two of these and and on one the lamination lines are a bit uneven on different sides (different height on each side of the blade) but I am not concerned as for me these are EDC, and it doesn't affect performance, but for collectors i'm sure HH would exchange if not you're not happy. I'm not convinced the laminated steel, which must add to the production cost, adds much in terms of performance in such a small light duty knife, but it is a nice knife-nerd feature and certainly doesn't do any harm. Some older reviews mention problems with sharp edges on the handle. My knifes exhibit no such issues - perhaps a newer, revised design. the only sharp angle is where the blade meets the backspring, and this has caused me no problems.

Oh Robert de Carpentier, you'd like us to think that you're a REAL KNIFE MAN, but you give yourself away too easily...the steel is hard to sharpen in the field after you've been chasing game for over three weeks, LOL. See, first thing, three weeks isn't a hunting trip Robert, three weeks is a stroll in your back garden. When a REAL MAN goes to the veldt he goes for six months, he goes alone, and he goes naked except for his three-inch crocodile belt (made from a crocdile that he killed with his bare hands for looking at him wrong) and his Fallkniven U1. Second thing, he doesn't need to sharpen his Fallkniven U1 in the field because he ONLY USES IT WHEN HE ACTUALLY NEEDS TO. I know you've got questions, Robert, and you won't get the answers from the girlymen you meet on your three-week safaris as you sit round the campfire in your Christian Dior panties swapping tales about the time you almost shot a rabbit. So here are the answers: Q. But how do you make a fire, Jan, with just your Fallkniven U1 and a belt for gear? A. You don't make a fire, Robert. You don't need it to cook with because you eat what you have killed - with your bare hands, mind, you don't use your Fallkniven U1 for that - raw. You don't need it for warmth because after your first couple of months sleeping naked on the ground aged ten you toughened up and stopped feeling the cold. You don't need it to keep wild animals away because you want them to come. Personally I like to smear myself with antelope blood and intestines before I go to sleep in the hope of attracting hyenas, so I can fight them with my bare hands. A real man sleeps better after killing ten hyenas with his bare hands. Q. So you use your Fallkniven U1 for dressing the game with, then, after you've killed it with your bare hands? A. Not at all. A real man can tear through elephant hide with his fingernails and gnaw through a zebra's Achilles tendon with his teeth. But it's a myth that game needs dressing to start with. Every part of an animal is food. Normally if I've just strangled a wildebeeste I'll simply punch a good hole in its ribcage with my fists, stick my head inside and start eating. Now that's what you call fresh meat. Q. So what exactly DO you use your Fallkniven U1 for, Jan? A. Three things. 1. If I have to fight several lions at once. 2. If I have to fight a crocodile over 4m in length. 3. Makes a good toothpick after eating a raw warthog. Q. What do you think of the Fallkniven U1 as a knife, Jan? A. It's a decent knife, though the blade is a bit longer than you strictly need just for lion-killing. I found that the handle wasn't uncomfortable enough for a real man to use, though, so I had to wrap it in barbed wire. This also makes it super grippy.

Had this knife for about a week now and used on a few trips to the woods and as a general EDC on rotation with my LTC. Fallkniven really are underrated knives, this is a great EDC, great steel, fit and finish and very people friendly which in current climate was a big decision in me purchasing this over a replacement UKPK. Highly recommended.

Small, sturdy, non locking blade. The non threatening aspect makes it perfect in every social situation. On top of this, the cocobolo handles are simply beautiful! Scary sharp 3G steel. One downside though: not so easy to maintain that factory sharpness... The price you have to pay to the high Rockwell tag. Lightning fast HH service as usual.

A wonderful knife. Razor sharp out of the box and it holds an edge better than any knife I've previously owned. One word of warning - I've had a couple of heart stopping moments when the blade almost closed on my fingers. On both occasions I was stupidly working with the point of the knife rather than the edge so I can't score the knife down but I do wish that safety features such as locking mechanisms weren't illegal. When a knife is this sharp you might do more than cut yourself you might lose your fingers. Be careful. I learnt my lesson the lucky way.

Very sharp very useful, use it all the time , dressed a deer in the field with it so a wee knife for big jobs. Downside is weak spring I like a positive spring action but hey ho pluses well outweigh minuses so 5 stars buy one

I have to agree with Mark, Evans, Nigel, Gary, Paul that whilst this is a lovely knife it does have its drawbacks. The design of the handle does make heavy use a little sore on the hand with prolonged use and the wood can make it a little slippy when wet. The blade is incredibly sharp out of the box and maintains its edge very well. The pouch is very durable and tough with a handy belt loop.

I've just bought my second one of these, and I don't regret the expenditure. Nothing fancy, no frills, but a proper EDC with a very, very sharp blade, made of top quality laminated steel. Add a Kwik stud to the back of the blade, and you have a one handed opener, which is perfectly legal Incidentally, the Kwik stud, which looks as thought it should be there, does not mark the blade, no matter how hard you tighten it.
