Many years ago, when Fällkniven began the
development of the now famous knife series Tre
Kronor, they wanted to test something new: A
completely unknown laminate powder steel. Tests
went well, but they also wanted to test the steel on
the open market. So they manufactured 110 F1-
knives using this 3G steel, knives which were then
sold all over the world. The reactions were, to say
the least, positive. As a result the F1 3G has now
become a regular member of the Fällkniven line up
and is available as readily as the standard F1 which
is not a limited edition or numbered.

    superlative

Posted by garbo on 23rd Mar 2017

buying this knife it really had to be 3g. i have an A1, and wanted the vg2 laminations, which are supposed to scratch less than 420j2 laminations. the union of scandi fallkniven/ japanese hattori in my eyes gets the best of both worlds. they seem to stimulate each other to greater achievement. without fallkniven there would probably be fewer people able to own a bit of hattori. and they both have traditional minimalism in design. fallkniven to me... wow.. the knife is so simple; needs no choils, no jimping. it obliges using the handle 'correctly'. it's utility knives interest me and this knife is so purely utilitarian. it is sharper than a knife this thick is expected to be. came with a micro bevel which is going slowly with stropping. like the a1 its surprisingly versatile. i'm convinced by convex. i live in a very wet place..if its not fallkniven its not so good. the price? cheap. the chance of me getting one of these out of hattori is easily twice as expensive. many thanks to heinnie ( under 24hrs to the hebrides! ), fallkniven and the metalurgical master, hattori.

    too hard

Posted by glenny on 27th Oct 2016

Im writing this review hoping to win the vg 10 version, ive had the 3g version about 3/4 years but im now selling it the reason being its just too hard to sharpen for me, although its probably the most comfortable knife I have its no good if I cant sharpen it(and i'm not bad at sharpening everything else i've got is razor sharp) if you are a master sharpener get this knife if not get the cheaper version, also the zytel sheath does not hold the knife as well as I would have liked (fixed this with rubber inetube and a fire starter):-)

    Excellent

Posted by MilkyPenguin on 18th May 2014

As you would expect, excellent knife. Absolutely razor sharp out of the box, with no need to touch up the edge. Fantastic build quality with zero rough edges. Great weight, balance, and size. Kind of think its rude to use it out in the woods. It's too nice!

    Perfect size for horizontal carry

Great knife shaving sharp out the box. Plastic sheath ok but I went for a leather horizontal carry sheath on eBay.

    Joy to own

Having done plenty of research on survival knives before purchase, I found the F1 to have a great reputation amongst knife aficionado. Just do a couple of YouTube searches yourself. I chose the 3G version because I wanted a version with a lasting edge, and edge is has. You could shave with it straight out of the box...not that you'd want to. A knife I will enjoy for years to come. Highly recommended.

    Knife good sheath not so.

    Posted by P.G. on 5th Sep 2011

The F1 is a legend, and having the 3G steel seems like a no-brainer to me. Very simple but effective design which is hard to beat. I find the size just right and it feels good in the hand. Scalpel sharp from the box and hand finished to perfection. The plastic sheath is a letdown but I have ordered a sweet custom horizontal (a la Bear Grylls) style leather affair from the states which will rectify the sheath issue. More classy and old school than the TOPS/RAT survival knives but just as effective in practical application.

    One of the best

Posted by Jia on 24th Feb 2011

Bought one in 2010 when it was on a limited run. Glad to see it coming back as a regular model. If budget allows, go for this 3G model, the edge lasts longer. Otherwise, go for the F1 VG10. Both steel can achieve the same level of sharpness, it's just 3G is even harder, hence lasts longer. In the field, I like Zytel sheath: easy to clean, easy to dry.
