For a minimalist with an appetite for big adventure. Jesper Voxnaes’ Scandinavian backyard is filled with fjords, punctuated by mountains, and sliced by surging rivers. So when he sets out to design an outdoor knife, it’s crafted to perform. Everywhere. With Field Strip technology, the CRKT HVAS is taking preparedness to the next level. Your move, Mother Nature.

Jesper Voxnaes calls Loegstrup, Denmark home. And his hobbies include hunting, fishing, sailing, camping, hiking…you get the picture. So when he reaches for a knife in the backcountry, miles from anywhere, he expects it to perform. In fact, he designs it to do just that. The name HVAS (pronounced simply vas) harkens to the knife’s Old Norse roots, translating to “sharp” in the ancient language, and it’s a flawless addition to an outdoorsman’s wilderness gear with a classic drop point blade in a clean satin finish. The glass-reinforced nylon injection-molded handles are a formidable opponent for unexpected conditions. But if it does start to slow down, it’s been given Field Strip technology for quick cleaning and simple maintenance without tools.

From the highest peaks to the rowdiest river canyons, the HVAS™ is raring to go.

How Field Strip Works

Field Strip Technology lets you easily disassemble your knife for cleaning without tools. To disassemble, close the knife, push the front release lever up. Then spin the rear release wheel clockwise —once you feel the handle release, pull it up and away. Handles and blade come apart easily. To bring the knife back together, place the blade and handles into the closed position - press and hold the pivot. Once the pivot is seated correctly, rotate the release wheel counter-clockwise until snug. Push front lever down. The knife is restored to full working order.

    CRKT HVAS

Posted by Randy on 21st May 2021

Great little blade, good size, really easy one hande unlocking, and V Good price in the clearance. Keep it with me all the time and, so I don't forget, a second for the boat.

Well built and light in the hand !

Posted by Moth on 7th Apr 2021

Surprisingly good this! Handle ergonomics are really good. Blade is well centred ! Knife is lighter than expected ! Blade size is useful, but not the sharpest out of the box. Field strip is stiff initially to take apart, but goes back together well. As recentred the blade fine. Was torn between the HVAS and the Homefront, but the homefronts flipper stopped that option. However this was a good second, espeshally as the price has now come down to; is comparable to the USA. My only concern is how the nylon washers will wear in the long term. They are also very easy to loose when stripping the knife.

    First CRKT Knife

Posted by Campbell on 26th Mar 2021

Not sure I would want to play full price be worth a look when it was on sale, to start with I've only had several days, the blade came with a decent profile to the edge and has shaped up nicely. I like the design of the blade and it profile, the hole for your thumb to open it is quite sharp but holds onto your skin even when wet and allows you to deploy the knife easily, nice easy access to the cross lock to fold the blase away, the handle is deep but narrow to hold and comfortable along with the short but sturdy clip that would worth on any thickness of belt. The field strippable part it nice, make sharpening on a jig easy and allows the knife to be cleaned ad re-oiled with ease. Feels well built and designed, would be nice with some titanium handles if the carry the design on or some different blades to fit the current handle design. Definitely worth a look at.

    A handy addition

Posted by Randy Banks on 19th Mar 2021

Although a bit lightweight compared to some other outdoor knives, the blade is good, one handed opening is a pretty smooth, and the field strip technology could prove. useful. All in all, a good little knife.

The HVAS by CRKT, nice fit & finish sharp OTB. First impressions !! Good nicely put together smooth action with nice lock up. The field strip technology , that made me curious and was one of reasons for my purchasing this knife, did a couple test runs a little tricky, just need's a little practice. usual great from the guy's at H/H . will review again once i have i have used it in the field.

    Love it.

Posted by Malc of The North on 27th Mar 2019

Always had a problem clearing all the grime from my knives after a weekend out in the wilderness. This is such a great knife. Now I can service my knife properly with ease. Edge is lovely. Fit and finish spot on. Nice work CRKT. Thank HH.

The odd quaity issue but a nice knife

Posted by John on 9th Dec 2018

On opening the box, I noticed the very tip of the knife was bent over maybe 0.5mm most likely from grinding, It took 5 seconds to remove it with a diamond file. Also the liner lock barely catches unless you flick the knife open hard, hopefully with wear it will fix itself. Also the pocket clip has an has a dark line on it that will not rub off. All in all a few minor faulty, But i like the knife even so. I just wish we did not have to pay almost twice the price the US does. John.
