The Flight has a hollow-ground blade manufactured using 8Cr13MoV stainless steel, which is similar to AUS-8 in its properties, performance and function. 8Cr13MoV steel contains both molybdenum and vanadium. Molybdenum enhances the strength and hardness of the steel, vanadium its wear resistance and toughness. Carbon augments the steel's tensile strength and increases its resistance to wear and abrasion. Resulting from this recipe is blade steel that retains a sharp cutting edge over time and use.

The "comet" shaped opening hole is a trademark of the Byrd line and is synonymous with the stringent quality requirements, high performance materials and manufacturing, which go into every knife. Fully stainless handles have a sequence of ergonomic curves that fit into the palm for comfort and fatigue-free control while cutting. For additional safety, a portion of the lock release is ground away. This is a design add-on conceived by custom knifemaker David Boye and eliminates the chance of gripping the knife tightly enough to unintentionally release the lock. All byrds feature a pocket clip that clips the knife inside a pocket and it attaches to either end of the folder for tip-up or tip-down right-hand carry.

    A quality Byrd!

    Posted by Damonw207 on 30th Nov 2016

So impressed with this knife, great stainless steel finish and a razor sharp blade, nice deep pocket clip. Good weight to the knife - it's produced by Spyderco and the quality is as good as an actual Spyderco knife. Lockup is solid.. Can't recommend this knife enough!

    come fly with me

Cheaper version of a Spyderco , but you'd never know . The only difference is the shape of the thumb hole and the missing spyder logo , I can't fault this knife in any way or the service from Heinnie .

Really nice quality for a very reasonable price

I got the Flight in stainless steel a few days ago.

First impressions - it was bigger & heavier than I had expected.

Anyway, blade shape is quite funky & nicely machined. A bit of a struggle to flick it open though I am sure it will improve over time. One clumsy attempt, first day, to flick it had it skittering across the slate kitchen floor - eek!! But not a scratch despite this heavy fall. A lanyard will help with grip. The fittings are superb & really well machined - gap tolerances are spot on. Lock up is solid with no play. Currently carrying it tip down which seems a bit alien but as soon as I get my hands on the right torx bit I will try tip-up carry. Maybe tip-down contributed to me letting go of it? Or maybe I am just clumsy..

Blade is sharp out of the box.

All in all, I am thrilled. Despite functionality, my view is that G10 or FRN can make a knife look cheap. This does not look cheap, it looks like a very expensive piece of functional art.

    Well worth it.
