The Boker Barlow with its extra long bolsters and the wide blade is a milestone in the model history of the Boker factory.

This version, the Boker Barlow Integral Canvas Micarta Black is equipped with a contoured handle body of dark red canvas micarta, which is milled from a solid block of micarta and also forms the characteristic bolsters of the Barlow. The lightweight construction can therefore completely dispense with additional metal liners.

Thanks to the contoured black canvas micarta handle scales, this modern gentleman's knife sits extremely comfortably in the hand. The slipjoint blade is made of ice-hardened N690 and is opened by nail nick. Both the handle and the blade are matt blasted.

This practical knife is a perfect companion for your trouser pocket, but also large enough to handle most everyday cutting jobs without any problems.

Handmade in the Boker Knife Manufactory in Solingen. Supplied with a high-quality felt case for storage.

A reasonable beater pocket knife (with reservations).

Posted by Nightoil on 15th Sep 2021

My first Böker. I was surprised at the inaccuracy of the blade form. It isn't even straight. Centering is off at the tip, with the blade almost touching the left scale in the middle. I re-profiled the rough, uneven factory bevels to 20 degrees. The N690 is surprisingly hard - presumably due to the "ice hardening". The unevenness of the bevels is partly down to the blade's uneven behind-the-edge thickness - much thicker towards the tip. The canvas micarta quickly lost its dark colour. I decided to go all-in and scrub the knife with hot water & washing-up liquid to see what that would do. Got the micarta down to its base colours - milk chocolate brown in the "bolster" area and textured mid grey-brown for the rest. It re-darkens a bit with handling but not back to the darkness in the images. No way is this a black or even a near-black handled knife. Washing didn't affect the blade action. Steel on micarta may be self-lubricating. Makes it convenient for a beater pocket knife - won't attract dirt - simple to clean. Ditto for food prep. The blade is pleasantly easy to open with just finger tips, with its sand-blast finish. The backspring is fairly strong - holds the blade safely open. The solid 90-degree half stop makes one-handed closing safe (with the thumb). The linerless scales are perfectly rigid - no problem there. The handle finishing is flawless, apart from a few dings to the inner edges. The surface texture is very comfortable in the hand. Why the ridiculous case? A simple little carton sends a better message. The money could have gone towards a better knife or lower price. I was disappointed with this knife when it arrived but it has grown on me. The light weight, low maintenance and quality steel are definite pluses for a pocket knife. It just isn't a knife I can take much pleasure looking at, with it's poorly centered and curiously misshapen blade. No Chris Reeve this! (Nor does it cost £450.00, I suppose.) (Edit: In fact, this knife is so terrible, I've ordered a spare. It may even come with a straight blade!) As usual, the HH shopping experience: quick and painless!
