Boker have fulfilled one of their customers' long-standing wishes, a desire for a re-issue of their classic hunting pocketknife without additional blades.

As Damascus Knife of the Year 2018, this solid work knife is upgraded with a blade made from hand-forged stainless Damascus created by Chad Nichols (Mississippi). The "Boomerang" pattern looks stunning on the wide blade - in combination with the handle scales of desert ironwood and nickel silver bolsters, the knife takes on a choice sophisticated appearance.

The Damascus Knife of the Year 2018 is not just an exclusive collector's piece but also a hunting knife that truly stands the test of the hunt. The quality is second to none and the solid blade is secured with a backlock. It is limited to 999 pieces and handmade at the Boker Manufactory Solingen. Supplied in a frame case for display.

    A traditional Classic

Posted by Brian W on 23rd Jul 2018

I recently developed an interest in traditional German pocket hunting knives, and having no Damascus knives decided to buy this one. I am no stranger to spending this kind of money on a knife, so when it arrived swiftly from HH did I get the frisson of excitement that I expected? - frankly no. The Heinnie photographer is clearly very good and my knife is the exact same one featured on their website. At first I thought it looked better in the photos than it does in the flesh. Also the box was a problem. Boker have created a box in which the knife can be displayed. In my opinion a knife sandwiched between two sheets of plastic looks like it should be on a rack in the tool dept. of B&Q so this is not an improvement on their normal excellent fitted foam ones. The Blade length is quoted as 8.4 cms, but the cutting edge on mine is 7.8cms. Also a blade width of 4mm on a flat grind 3" blade limits it's usefulness - try slicing raw carrots for example. A thinner blade cuts better for this type of use. OK - stop whinging Brian - this is a fine example of a traditional German Jagdtaschenmesser. The handle scales in desert ironwood are beautiful, the protruding lock release is nicely shaped and finished and the knife is faultlessly put together, typical Boker (this is my ninth). After a drop from a Boker oil pen it opens and closes sweetly with a satisfying 'snick'. Call me a philistine but at first I wasn't sure about the Damascus blade but Ive had the knife two weeks now and found it's grown on me. I can't stop looking at it and picking it up so I think it will become a family heirloom. So don't worry HH, despite my initial impression I'm not about to send it back!
