The design of the Bowie blade dates back approximately 187 years to 1830 when it was created for Jim Bowie by James Black a blacksmith from Hackensack, New Jersey. The basic Bowie format has a experienced many elaborations during that time but has always given due deference to the original.

The modern day Bowie uses materials and manufacturing processes that could only have been dreamt of in the early 19th century. The Blackjack Bowie uses A2 tool steel with a flat grind and pleasing clipped blade shape. The lugged brass hilt echoes some famous Randall Bowies as does the impressive brass pommel. The handle is polished black canvas micarta with rad and white liners and an eye catching grain. It is supplied with a brown leather sheath.

    A Randall Smithsonian Bowie clone.

Posted by J. Joshua Kono on 12th Jun 2018

I've always believed that Blackjack is the brand for those who cannot afford to own the Randall Knives and surely I'm one of them. But I must say that the quality is about the same and perhaps, Blackjack is slightly better in terms of the blade steel they use. The A2 tool steel, the blade of this formidable Bowie is made of, has a better edge retention and toughness compared to O1and needless to say, it's far more affordable than the legendary Smithsonian Bowie. This knife definitely has a quality of custom knives and it seems to possess a character of its own. Though beefy with blade thickness of over .25 inch, the convex grind blade cuts like a razor and the awesome clip point is a real eye catcher. The canvas micarta handle seems to be sturdier than wood, bone or stacked leather and though a little slippery, it's solid as a rock. The sheath is also well crafted and seems to last a long time, if properly cared with leather oil. It's a big, fat and very robust Bowie and I'd like to congratulate Mr. Mike Stewart of Bark River on building such an awesome knife. It's a kind of Bowie knife that I've always wanted and I couldn't be any happier with this beauty. No gimmicks... just performance. Yes, I agree indeed.
