We love to dig in the dirt and any tool that makes the experience more fun is a tool we want in our bag. After spending countless years testing all different types of tools from locations around the world, Barebones discovered a tool called the Hori Hori.

Roughly translated from Japanese, Hori Hori means Dig Dig, an expression we can all relate to. The Barebones Hori Hori was designed to be the ultimate multi-tool in your garden and Barebones' unique take on this tool should feel right at home in any garden setting.

A quality walnut handle and tempered steel blade mean this tool is built to last. Digging, trenching, planting, cutting, and even popping the top off your choice of refreshing beverage, we think you'll find the Barebones Hori Hori to be your favorite go-to garden tool.

    Excelent

Having read the previous two reviews and received mine early this week I must say it is very well made and put together. I have no issues with mine and the review ref the slightly rough handle may be fair but I find with slightly wet hands the grip is better than something smooth.
It’s not expensive in fact very good value.
    HH service superb as always.

    Returned unfortunately. Outstanding Customer service.

I had previously ordered a Hori-Hori Original for a keen gardener friend. She loves it. They were out of stock, butI was sent a reminder by Heinnie once they were back. I ordered the Ultimate mainly because it had a sheath, not realising it was a different tool. Great bit of kit, looked the business and scarily sharp. However the pommel was loose. I tried to tighten it with the screw in the end, but it was at full travel. I requested 2 original Hori-Horis instead of another Ultimate which was sorted without a murmur. I also got a refund of the difference. This is the first time I have had to return something, and I have to say Heinnie Haynes customer service was outstanding. As everybody already knows:)
Any delay in the return process was down to me (Corona protocols - had to wait for a shopping trip to combine the post office) and the postie who admitted the package had been lost in his van. Quite frankly it was the quickest parcel delivery I have ever had and I'm in the Highlands. Thus the 3 stars - more for the service than the product. As a thanks to Heinnie I ordered a 4th one for another friend.

    Dig Dig During the lockdown

Thanks to Heinnie who are maintaining outstanding service despite the current difficulties. Outstanding!

LMy initial reaction to the barebones ultimate Hori Hori was good. It is a hefty tool that looks and feels like it will last a lifetime. The serated edge is extremely sharp (take care), and it also has a plain or knife edge which isn't (and shouldn't be) super sharp from the box but it's perfect for general garden use, chopping through the odd root etc. The edge can be sharpened, but who wants to shave with a trowel? The tool is well balanced and feels good in the hand, and has a lovely stonewashed finish to the blade, which will disappear 10 minutes after you start digging, so I would suggest cleaning and oiling after every use. I like the used look so this doesn't bother me. The handle is a solid lump of walnut that looks like it will stand the test of time, and it has a hefty pommel which can be used as a makeshift hammer. All in all a fantastic tool, with just one little niggle. I expected the walnut handle would be finished to a higher standard, coming from a knife maker, but it feels slightly rough and unfinished. If I were just a gardener I probably wouldn't have given it a second thought, but as a regular customer of heinnie and their outstanding knife stock, it just felt a bit of a let down. However, I sanded it down to 3000 grit, two coats of Danish oil, a quick buff and 3 coats of a good quality hard wax polish and it feels and looks beautiful now, with very little effort. Great tool. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
