Light, light, very light. The Baladeo Papagayo Skinny. The true enemy of hikers is the weight. Baladeo created this knife for all those who want to lighten their backpacks. To do so, they focused on the basics: a half serrated blade for hard cuts, and a liner lock. The result: 45 grams that should definitely be in your backpack.

There is a choice of either Zebrano Wood or G10

    Less is more?

Well, just maybe, sometimes it is. Despite its super light weight, this striped-down frame lock folder, is a proper peice of kit. So very pleasingly simple to use and keep clean, it has fully met my needs as a food prep knife on the run. Just make sure you engage the framelock before you start work as mine doesn't always engage automatically on opening. I keep it razor sharp so it makes short work of most things, but I found that the single strip of G10 is not enough to stop the frame becoming uncomfortable in the hand on repeated, heavy duty work. Improvements? - I'd have a second strip of G10 on the reverse of the bottom part of the frame for comfort, and I'd like the framelock to engage first time every time to make it foolproof. So, whilst this isn't a substitute for a proper survival knife, it will likely do 80% of what 80% of people will need: and as such it's earnt itself a place in my backpack.
